Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 19, 2026

Working version. This policy accurately describes how Kristy Approved handles your information today, and it applies now. It is pending a full legal review, and we will update this page when that review is complete.

Kristy Approved (“Kristy”, “we”, “us”) is a grocery-coaching app. It reads packaged food labels, answers questions about the counters that have no barcode, and helps you build a shopping list. This page explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and what you can do about it.

How you sign in

Kristy has no passwords. The Kristy iPhone app signs you in with Sign in with Apple, and that is the only way to sign in. The section below describes exactly what Apple gives us.

We do not collect phone numbers and we do not send SMS messages. Kristy has no text-message sign-in on any platform: not in the iPhone app, which has no phone number field at all, and not on this website. An earlier version of this page described a phone-code sign-in for the website; that method was retired before anyone used it, and nothing here collects, stores, or transmits a phone number.

Sign in with Apple

What we receive, and what we do not

The iPhone app signs you in with Sign in with Apple. It has no phone number field, does not ask for your phone number, and sends no SMS. When you tap the button, Apple authenticates you on the device and gives us the following — and nothing else:

We do not collect your name, and we do not ask Apple for it. Sign in with Apple can pass an app your name on the first sign-in; Kristy requests only your email address, so Apple never sends us your name at all and there is nothing for us to store. We never receive your Apple ID password, and Apple does not tell us anything about your other apps or purchases.

Turning it off

You can withdraw the app's access at any time in Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple → Kristy → Stop using Apple ID. The app signs you out the next time it checks. That is not the same as deleting your account, and it does not erase anything — it stops the sign-in from working, and your data stays until you delete it. To remove the data, use Delete my account in the Kristy iPhone app, as described under “Deleting your data” below.

What the rest of this page covers

Everything below this point — what else we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and how long we keep it — applies to the website and the iPhone app equally. Deleting your account is the one exception: signing in happens only in the iPhone app, so that is where the delete door is. See “Deleting your data” below.

What else we collect

Information you choose to give us

Information created as you use the app

Payment information

Paid memberships are processed by Stripe on the web and by Apple for in-app purchases on iOS. We never see or store your card number. We store only your subscription status and the identifiers we need to manage it.

Your individual behavior stays yours

What you personally buy, scan, and put on your list is used to personalize your experience and nothing else. It is never pooled into a shared dataset.

We do keep two anonymous, product-level records to improve the app for everyone: the details of products that have been scanned, and the text of counter questions our knowledge base could not answer well, so we know what to write next. Neither carries any user identifier — no account, no phone number, no email address, no Apple identifier, no IP address — and neither can be traced back to you. This separation is enforced in our code, not just by policy.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We use these service providers:

ProviderWhat it handles
SupabaseDatabase and authentication — your account, your email address, preferences, list, and history
VercelWeb hosting and web analytics
RailwayApplication server
AnthropicAI processing of your questions, coaching text, and label photos
StripePayment processing on the web
AppleSign in with Apple, in-app purchases, and subscription status on iOS
Open Food FactsPublic product database. Receives the barcode you scanned, with no user identifier attached

We may also disclose information where required by law, or in connection with a merger or acquisition.

Sensitive information

Some of what you may tell us — dietary restrictions and health-adjacent goals — could be considered sensitive under some privacy laws. We collect it only if you choose to provide it, use it only to personalize what the app shows you, never sell it, never use it for advertising, and never pool it into the anonymous datasets described above. It is deleted when you delete your account.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, it is removed. Anonymous product and question records contain no personal information and are retained indefinitely. Payment records are retained as long as tax and accounting law requires.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account and everything held against it at any time from inside the Kristy iPhone app — open Settings and choose Delete my account. This permanently removes your profile, goals, list and list patterns, haul, chat history, and sign-in record. It is immediate and cannot be undone. You can also email hello@kristyapproved.com and we will remove it for you.

The iPhone app is the only place this door exists, and it is the only thing that erases anything. There is no sign-in on this website, so there is no account to delete from it. Revoking Kristy from Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple stops you signing in but deletes nothing; use Delete my account if you want the data gone.

Security

Your data is stored with row-level security, so one account cannot read another's. Card details never reach our servers. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.

Children

Kristy Approved is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Kristy is not a medical provider

Kristy provides general grocery and nutrition guidance and is not a licensed dietitian, doctor, or medical provider. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. Talk to a qualified healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, especially if you have a health condition. If you have a food allergy, always read the physical label — do not rely on this app for allergen safety.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes to how we handle your data, we will update this page and revise the date above.
